Allometry in carcasses of lambs of the Pantaneiro genetic group slaughtered with different subcutaneous fat thickness Animal Sciences
Mora, Natália Holtz Alves Pedroso; Macedo, Francisco de Assis Fonseca de; Osório, José Carlos Silveira; Martins, Elias Nunes; Mexia, Alexandre Agostinho; Macedo, Thiago Gomes de.
Twenty-four female lambs of the Pantaneiro genetic group, with approximately 100 days of age, average body of 16.24 ± 1.78 kg, were slaughtered with 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 mmof subcutaneous fat thickness, measured by ultrasound in the Longissimus, to evaluate the allometric growth. Lambs fed a complete pelleted diet calculated to ensure a daily weight gain of0.30 kg. Slaughtering was performed as the female lambs reached the pre-established fat thickness. After 24 hours in a cold chamber at 4ºC, chilled carcasses were cut in half and weighed. The right side was separated into five sections to determine the allometry of carcasses and cuts. Neck and rib showed isogonic growth in all treatments. Loin has remained late growth to 2.0 and3.0 mm. Shoulder and leg were...

Anatomical and Biometric Aspects of the Cutaneous Distribution of the Superficial Fibular Nerve International Journal of Morphology
Gabrielli,Carla; Froehner Junior,Ilário; Teixeira Braga,Maria Terezinha.
The objective of this research was to study the cutaneous branching of the superficial fibular nerve (SFN), with a topographic and biometric focus, aiming to provide further anatomical details for foot and ankle surgery in general. There were analyzed 30 right and left lower limbs of 15 corpses of male adult Brazilian individuals. The cutaneous branching of the nerve was dissected and measurements taken with a tape measure and digital caliper. The nerve emerged at the surface as a single trunk in 66.7% and divided into two branches in 33.3% of the cases. When a single trunk emerged, it appeared at the level of the third distal of the leg in 75%, at the boundary between the middle and distal thirds in 20%, and, in the middle third in 5%. When divided, in...

Carcass quality, parts and tissue development of lambs finished in three systems R. Bras. Zootec.
Hashimoto,Juliano Hideo; Osório,José Carlos da Silveira; Osório,Maria Teresa Moreira; Bonacina,Marlice Salete; Lehmen,Rosilene Inês; Pedroso,Carlos Eduardo da Silva.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of finishing systems on natural pasture and gender on the carcass quality, parts and tissue development of lambs. Forty-five non-castrated males and forty-five females were distributed in a completely randomized design into three treatments: lamb with mother kept on pasture; weaned lamb kept on pasture and weaned lamb kept on pasture with supplementation (soybean hulls at 1% of body weight). The criteria for slaughter was body condition score (2.0 - 3.0). The carcass characteristics and parts composition were influenced by the sex. The finishing system with supplementation promoted greater carcass yield and longer leg length. The tissue composition was different only for the sex, with the males...

Clinical Evaluation of Fibularis Tertius Muscle Prevalence International Journal of Morphology
Ramirez,Daysi; Gajardo,Carolina; Caballero,Paula; Zavando,Daniela; Cantín,Mario; Suazo Galdames,Iván.
The fibularis tertius muscle (FTM) in man has been developed over time to acquire subsequent bipedal gait. The FTM functions as a crucial contributor in dorsiflexion and eversion, postulated over the years as a stabilizer of the talocrural joint, avoiding forced investment and protecting the anterior talofibular ligament. The literature describes that FTM is absent in 10% of cases, with no data on Chilean population. A study of surface anatomy in 168 young subjects, 60% female and 40% male students at the Universidad de Talca, Chile, with a mean age of 20.6 ± 1.68 years, was conducted. The presence of FTM was identified following the implementation of a clinical assessment protocol that determines the presence of muscle on the basis of a progression called...

Survey of the leg exocrine glands in termites(Isoptera) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Soares,Helena Xavier; Costa-Leonardo,Ana Maria.
A survey of the leg exocrine glands in the termite workers of 16 species of the families Kalotermitidae and Termitidae was carried out through scanning electron microscope. Glandular openings were not found in the legs of Anoplotermes sp., Ruptitermes sp. (Apicotermitinae, Termitidae) or Glyptotermes planus (Kalotermitidae), but they are present, spread over the ventral surface of the first, second and third tarsomeres of other Termitidae such as Armitermes euamignathus, Cornitermes cumulans, Nasutitermes coxipoensis, Rhynchotermes nasutissimus, Syntermes nanus, Embiratermes festivellus (Nasutitermitinae), Amitermes beaumonti, Hoplotermes amplus, Microcerotermes sp., Neocapritermes opacus, Orthognathotermes sp., Spinitermes brevicornutus and Termes sp....
